By accessing and using the HanTrace website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of these terms, please do not use our site.

Service Provided "As-Is"

HanTrace provides Chinese-language-learning reference materials on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant the absolute accuracy, completeness or fitness for any particular purpose of dictionary entries, stroke-order data, vocabulary levels or example content. All content is for educational reference only. You use the website at your own risk.

HanTrace offers a Free tier and an optional paid Pro subscription (see our Pricing page). Core reference and lookup features are free, forever. Pro adds extra capacity and interactive learning features on top — existing free‑core functionality will remain available to users without charge.

Intellectual Property & Data Licenses

Website interface, layout and original code are intellectual property of HanTrace. Third-party source data is governed by respective open-source licenses:

• CC-CEDICT (MDBG) dictionary: CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Some dictionary entries have been edited and curated for this website.
• Stroke-order data from hanzi-writer-data / Make-Me-a-Hanzi: Arphic Public License.

You must comply with all applicable open-source license terms if you reuse, redistribute or modify data obtained from this website.

Prohibited Uses

• Launch large-scale automated scraping, bulk downloading or high-frequency robot traffic that disrupts normal website operation.
• Misuse our service for illegal, harmful or infringing purposes.
• Attempt to bypass security mechanisms of the site.

Non-automated, reasonable copying for personal individual study is permitted. Any redistribution of third‑party dataset content from this site must comply with the respective open‑source license terms.

Fair Use & Plan Limits

Plans and limits: the Free plan includes a vocabulary notebook of 100 saved words and up to 20 tags; the Pro plan raises these to 10,000 saved words and 100 tags and unlocks quiz review and learning statistics. We may adjust usage limits for paid plans for fair‑use purposes. We may enforce reasonable usage limits for custom‑tag storage.

Paid subscriptions auto‑renew until cancelled. You may switch between monthly and annual billing or cancel any time via your account billing portal. If you cancel, your access remains active for the remainder of your paid billing period, and we do not provide prorated or partial refunds for unused time in the remainder of a billing period.

Refunds: all refund matters — including our 30‑Day Money‑Back Guarantee for first‑time subscribers — are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms. Refunds are issued to your original payment method by our merchant of record.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted under applicable law, HanTrace shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential damages arising out of your access to or use of this website. This limitation applies to direct damages as well, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China, excluding its conflict‑of‑law rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be brought exclusively before the competent courts located at the registered domicile of the Service operator.

If mandatory consumer‑protection provisions of the law of your country of residence grant you protections that cannot be waived, those protections remain unaffected by this section.

We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service. We will notify active account holders of material changes by email. Revised terms will be published on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the revised Terms constitutes acceptance of the updates.

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. These Terms, together with our Refund Policy and Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and HanTrace regarding the Service.
